The Light Within

Now that the winter solstice has passed, the journey into darkness has reached its peak, and we move into each day with a knowing that the warmer days of spring will soon be upon us.
Regardless of how this season resonates with you, I hope you have been blessed with the gifts of connection in the gatherings of friends and family.
Yogic philosophy reminds us that meaningful connections begin, first and foremost, with ourselves. The turbulence of life is inevitable and it may be particularly challenging when it shows up in our families and close relationships. So, befriending ourselves is truly a sacred act of love.
We live in a world that constantly tries to distract us from ourselves. This makes it very easy to ignore the most important person, and displace our care and love on others, while all along forgetting our foundation of self-care.
When was the last time you took time to roll out your yoga mat in a quiet space in your home; to walk on a tree lined street; to listen to the sound of a creek; to watch birds wherever they may be; to pet an animal; to listen to a good comedy; to curl up with an amazing book; to meditate; to use your hands to create something just for you?
Life will throw many roadblocks in your way. It will tug and pull you in directions that will challenge every cell in your body, and every nook and cranny in your heart. The art of navigating all these challenges in the light of your authentic, clear and whole self, is founded in each breath, each yoga posture, and in each and every day that is gifted to you on this magnificent planet.
This is a theme that I often weave into these newsletters because I am reminded again and again, that when I ‘walk my talk’, I experience the joys, calmness, and strength to show up in the world as my whole and best self.
The shining light within each of us is what moves us all from darkness to light. So, do light up the world, but first strike the match to light your own way. Others can then more easily find their match to light their path.
Wishing you a new year filled with your light shining brightly wherever you go.
